Disadvantages of video interview for the job candidate

By Emily Heaslip April 8 th 2019 - Content writer @ Vervoe https://vervoe.com/blog/how-to-prepare-for-a-one-way-video-interview/

The one-way video interview is on the rise: companies like Apple, Twitter, Google, UBS and many more use a one-way video interview at some point in their hiring process. Some estimates have seen a nearly 30% increase in the use of pre-recorded interviews in the last year. While one-way interviews are a great time-saving tool for recruiters, they can be an awkward experience for the candidate.

Disadvantages

  • Talking to a screen can seem odd and induce boredom during the interview;
  • There are no social cues that come up in a normal interview;
  • One has to answer the question and showcase their personality within the limits of the screen and question parameters;
  • There is a limited amount of time in which to record your response;
  • Poor posture can affect voice projection;
  • Inappropriate dressing, can give the wrong impression of the candidate;
  • A noisy background can interfere with video recording;
  • Technology can fail;
  • Some people are not comfortable using technology and this can mount pressure on them;
  • It can be a challenge for the candidate to see the interview process as fair.

Luckily, being aware of some of these things can help you counter the awful experience. Please share below if you have experienced any of the above or something else.
